In a moving ceremony that brought together distinguished personalities from the business world, family and close friends, the memoirs of engineer and businessman Mr. José Manuel Armenteros Rius, entitled “Almost 100 years of memory of a man of long numbers”, were published.
“The book, which compiles anecdotes and experiences of Don José, a native of San Pedro de Macorís, transcends the characteristics of a memoir to become a course on Dominican development in almost the entire 20th century and so far in the 21st,” said author Jeanne Marion Landais.
The writer shared hours of pleasant conversations with Don José in order to compile almost one hundred years of experiences ranging from his family life, his contributions to the commercial growth of the country, his passion in the construction of the most important hydroelectric plants in the Dominican Republic and the study of water resources, as well as his love and commitment to the environment.
The event was attended by Mrs. Francette Calac Vda. Armenteros, educator, founder of the Babeque School and a person very close to the family, who commented on the work.
During the event in his honor, Don José, through his son José Manuel Armenteros Márquez, thanked God, family, close friends and collaborators who have accompanied him in the different phases of his life and who for a long time have come to build symbolic bridges, as if they were “engineers of love”. He also congratulated and thanked the young engineers who are choosing this profession in national and foreign universities.
The activity, which took place at Casa España, was attended by influential personalities in the business world.
About Don José Manuel Armenteros Rius
He is founder and president of Mendoza, Armenteros y Asociados, MENDAR, S.A., since 1954, a company through which he has contributed in more than 200 projects, among which stand out several projects oriented to the multiple use of rivers, design of rural aqueducts, hydroelectric projects, numerous hydrological and hydraulic studies, among others.
His contributions have also extended through associations, being president in two periods in the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic, during the years 1976-1978 and 1978-1980; president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santo Domingo, between 1988 and 2005 and president from 2012 to date of the China-Dominican Business and Investment Chamber. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo SID from 1978 to 2022.
Throughout his almost 100 years of life, Mr. José Manuel Armenteros is an example of tenacious work, ethics and family love.
