The renovation will benefit more than 4,500 patients who visit the Hospital Maternidad Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia (Our Lady of Altagracia Maternity Hospital) by providing more suitable spaces for their evaluations, thereby facilitating timely care that contributes to their well-being and quality of life.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, October 2026. Grupo SID, through its Caminantes por la Vida Foundation, has delivered the renovated “Dr. Luis B. Rojas Gynecologic Oncology Department” at the Hospital Maternidad Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia. This initiative goes beyond simply modernizing the facilities; it aims to improve access to healthcare services for thousands of patients.
The renovation transformed the reception and waiting areas, and included the reorganization and equipping of the Cervical Pathology, Mastology, and Gynecologic Oncology units—now featuring three examination cubicles for sample collection and a sterilization area. These new spaces are furnished with medical examination tables, specialized medical equipment, and furniture designed for patient comfort.
“This project holds special significance, as it is being delivered to an institution that has supported generations of Dominican women—an institution that welcomes so many patients every day who place their trust in the expertise, dedication, and compassion of its healthcare professionals,” stated Ana Bonetti, president of the Caminantes por la Vida Foundation.
The project also included dedicated spaces for healthcare professionals, designed to support their work and provide better conditions for rest. “This renovation, which we are handing over to the community today, goes far beyond the refurbishment of walls, floors, and signage; it represents a commitment to the dignity of our patients. Thanks to this project, we now have a warmer, more humane, and welcoming space—one that conveys a clear message to every woman who walks through our doors: your health is a priority, and your well-being matters,” stated Dr. Henry Mesa, Director of the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Maternity Hospital.
Furthermore, this remodeling takes on special significance in October—Breast Cancer Prevention Month—a time when awareness efforts regarding the importance of prevention and timely detection are intensified.
“This department contributes to the training of professionals in the field of oncology; therefore, its impact extends further through the specialists who train here and carry their expertise to other healthcare settings,” noted Dr. Gloria Mejía de Selman, President of the Patronato Pro-Maternidad Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia (Board for the Support of the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Maternity Hospital).
The handover ceremony was attended by Ligia Bonetti, Executive President of Grupo SID; José Miguel Bonetti Guerra, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sociedad Industrial Dominicana; Roberto Bonetti Guerra, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MercaSID; and other senior executives from Grupo SID. Also present were Dr. Luis B. Rojas, Head of the Gynecologic Oncology Department, along with the center’s medical and administrative staff.
