How to Reduce Your Environmental Footprint at Work? 5 Tips

By: Mónica Ortiz Jr. Environmental Manager

The environmental or ecological footprint measures each person’s impact on the planet in their daily lives. Every action can have environmental consequences so people must be aware of what they consume and their actions, to begin adopting eco-friendly habits.

Many actions can be taken to reduce the environmental impact of your day-to-day life at home, but it is also possible to take care of the environment at work! Some steps you can take include:

  1. Bring reusable cups and utensils for your meals and drinks.
  2. Use recycling bins according to their classification.
  3. Print only what you need. If you must print, use narrower, lighter fonts to use less ink (examples: Calibri, Century Gothic, Courier, and Garamond).
  4. Keep the air conditioning thermostat between 19º- 23ºC.
  5. Power off the electronic devices that you are not using since in sleep mode they continue to consume a third of the energy they use when they are on. The same happens with chargers; so unplug them.

Remember: caring for the environment is everyone’s responsibility. Start taking care of the planet today!
