The executive president of Grupo SID gave a keynote address to the Industrial and Systems Engineering Student Committee (CEIIS), in which she highlighted the role of adaptation, disruption, the integration of new technologies, and permanence as success factors.
Disruption, speed in decision-making, and the integration of advanced technologies are critical factors in marking the next steps for the industry, which, to ensure success, also needs the ability to adapt, international expansion, and greater competitiveness.
The approach was shared by the businesswoman Ligia Bonetti, executive president of Grupo SID, in the context of a keynote address directed by the Industrial and Systems Engineering Student Committee (CEIIS) of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), in his twenty-eighth seminar “Insight: a look at the Dominican industry.”
Bonetti stated that the Dominican industry had built a legacy and that, for decades, it has been an important engine of growth, competitiveness, development, and progress, representing approximately 32% of the gross domestic product (GDP). Still, it must give the next few years to reaffirm its development.
He argued that the industrial sector had shown extraordinary resilience, demonstrated during the pandemic, since under a panorama full of difficulties, hesitating, and a complex international scenario, it never stopped and contributed to the country’s economic recovery.
“In a world in constant evolution, companies must be prepared to adapt to changes in the market and society in general,” said the business leader, pointing out that the new challenges in the industry demand flexibility to adjust to recent trends.
“But adapting does not mean changing our mission or purpose as a company. Rather it is to evolve without losing our essence. Being aware of the changes, being open to new ideas and ways of doing things”, stressed the president of the SID Group in her keynote speech “Resilient industries in changing environments: perspectives and strategies for the future.”
From his point of view, it is vital that industries are willing to invest in research and development to stay ahead in the new times. In this context, he highlighted the role played by education and decent learning for young people as the transformation engine.
“You are the FUTURE of this nation! They are the ones who will create employment opportunities tomorrow, who are already thinking and establishing technological innovations, optimizing processes and equipment”, Bonetti explained, addressing the young students.
The businesswoman reminded the young people that few entrepreneurial initiatives last over time because success is not easy to achieve and that staying relevant in the market is a daunting task that requires much work, constant effort, and a great passion that motivates them to continue advancing.
